This project was undertaken as part of the RSA (the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) Coffeehouse Challenge. After writing up and submitting, it won a national award of £1,000.
This project is now being used as an example tool to lobby for easier routes through planning control, access to grants and building legislation to encourage more sustainable public and private building projects.
This money has funded SixSix's design and production of this graphic board for display within the new Surgery.
It tells the story of the sustainable build and combines the technical information with a visually appealing image of the building both above and below ground. This is an informative display which documents this project and will become part of the Surgery heritage.
The building has just recently won the North East Journal's Landmark Award in the Environmental category and is awaiting an assessment from the Civic Trust to see whether they will further honour it with a Civic Trust Award.
Both the senior practice doctors and the staff are delighted with the graphic board which is also proving most useful as their Surgery is generating quite a lot of interest. Above ground there is little to see and understand what makes the building so sustainable - but the board explains and shows it in a visually easy way, so it's already proving its purpose. Most of the staff didn't really know how the building worked, and now that they do, are even more proud of their working environment.
